Entry Requirements
Entry to Certificate IV in Western and Eastern Dance Performance is by audition and candidate interview and meeting entry requirements of the appropriate IELTS level of at least level 5 for Certificate IV and IELTS level 5.5 for the Diploma.
Admission to the course requires the student to demonstrate sufficient movement ability in an audition class and satisfy the Artistic Director/staff representatives. Overseas students will be interviewed by telephone if they are not in Australia at the time of application. Selection is made on the basis of whether the potential student can demonstrate sufficient physical ability to be deemed capable of performing the physical requirements of the course. In both Certificate IV in Western and Eastern Dance, and Diploma of Western and Eastern Dance, the processes of reasonable adjustment will be applied to take into account the candidate’s age, gender, physical ability, social cultural and educational background, and recognition of prior learning. Admission to the course is normally at Certificate IV level for students. Only successful graduates of QWDA Certificate IV can apply for the Diploma level. Successful students will be expected to take part in a full training schedule, which will challenge them physically, emotionally and mentally, but which will equip them for the demands of a career in the industry.
Language Literacy & Numeracy Requirements
In order to complete the course students will need to have basic language, literacy and numeracy skills. The skill will need to be sufficient enough to:
- Prepare written assignments
- Prepare and deliver a written journal
Read basic anatomy and “principals of practice” literature as well as other theory for the course - Counting to music for timing
It is expected that international students will be functionally literate to the extent required to read, comprehend and discuss course materials and complete course assignments. English Language equivalent to an IELTS score of 5 is required for entry to the Certificate IV. An IELTS score of 5.5 for the Diploma is required for the Diploma and completion of the audition requirement of QWDA.
